In all art, nothing is more important than the qualities imparted by the human hand.
The Torok House
This project includes more than 130 linear feet of custom guard rail, 5 light fixtures, and a custom projector mount which descends from the ceiling. The rails are steel, and each rung has been hand bent to form a topographical map which corresponds to significant locations to my clients.
The Unknown Totem
This is a simple forged exploration of texture, and forms derived from direct pressure from experimental tooling.
Vessel
Designed to hold marbles, this small vessel has been hand hammered, welded, lined with felt, and given a bolt on bottom to ensure the ability to retrieve any unintended additions to its interior. Constructed from mild steel sheet metal.
All American Marine
I welded and fabricated many boats while working with All American Marine, and one of the most interesting projects was the world’s first hydrogen powered vessel called SWITCH. I built the racks for the hydrogen fuel cells from structural aluminum square tubing. I also built and installed the bulwarks that flank either side of the hydrogen tanks. I was also on the crew that installed the large emergency exhaust system which can be seen protruding from the top. While these are the elements you can see on the boat, I made and worked on many other elements of this vessel.
The Stump House
Based on the stump houses built by the first settlers, this modest welded replica boasts a number of necessities.
Spring Time Farm
After skipping a generation Nick and Sarah Spring decided to revive the farm Nick’s grandfather started. This sign was designed with the original hand painted typeface recovered from old photos of the original farm. This sign is bolted to a reenforced concrete base that was engineered to keep the sign standing, despite the 80mph winds which seasonally blow across the landscape.
The frame is made from three types of HSS, and the letters were plasma cut by hand from 16 gauge sheet metal.
